The Department of Modern Languages, Faculty of Arts, invites applications for the position of
POST-DOCTORAL RESEARCHER
for the period of June 1, 2012 – May 30, 2013 in the EU project MOLTO supervised by Professor Lauri Carlson.
MOLTO started in 2010 and runs through the end of the hiring period.
MOLTO (http://molto-project.eu) is a multinational project that develops tools for translating constrained language texts into multiple languages in real time with high quality. Prototypes covering a majority of the EU's 23 official languages have been built. MOLTO also studies combining constrained language translation with statistical MT.
The University of Helsinki five-member team contributes to ontology based multilingual term management and to the combination of MOLTO tools with traditional CAT tools.
Our main role in the last year is to manage the integration and evaluation of MOLTO solutions and results. We are looking for a person that has a background in language technology and/or translation, and is interested and able to take a responsible role in coordinating and evaluating a multinational and multilingual translation project.
An appointee to the position of post-doctoral researcher shall hold an applicable doctoral degree, have the ability to conduct independent scholarly work and have the teaching skills necessary for the position.
According to the Government Decree on Universities, post-doctoral researchers are required to be proficient in Finnish. They must also have at least satisfactory spoken and written skills in Swedish. Foreign citizens, non-native Finnish citizens or citizens who have not been educated in Finnish or Swedish may be exempted from this requirement without a separate application.
The salary will be based on level 5 of the demands level chart for teaching and research personnel in the salary system of Finnish universities. In addition, the appointee will be paid a salary component based on personal work performance. There will be a four-month trial period for the position.
